Leading this transformation is Richard Knight, Manufacturing Engineer at Powdertech Surface Science, who has been nominated as Powdertech’s Sustainability Champion for ‘The Great 100’ awards by Made in the Midlands.

Since joining Powdertech, Richard has brought a refreshing mix of technical skill, strategic thinking, and genuine passion to every project. With a background in Motorsport and Performance Engineering, he approaches sustainability with an engineer’s mindset, curious, analytical, and always looking for smarter, more efficient solutions.

One of Richard’s standout achievements is leading the implementation of Powdertech's on-site water treatment plant, saving 18,000 litres of water every single day. This initiative is a powerful example of how innovation and engineering can create meaningful environmental impact.

Richard also spearheaded efforts to reduce hazardous waste through improved recycling, which helped Powdertech secure ISO 14001 certification and strengthened the partnerships with local sustainability organisations. His leadership has helped to go beyond in embedding sustainability in Powdertech's day-to-day operations and long-term thinking.
