Fifty Years in the Business of Keeping Things Moving

Fifty years is a long time in British industry.

Long enough to see factories modernise, supply chains stretch across the world, technologies come and go, and customer expectations change completely.

Yet some things remain stubbornly constant.

A machine still stops when a bearing fails. A production line still waits when the right component is missing. A maintenance engineer still needs someone at the other end of the phone who understands the urgency.

For HAYLEY DEXIS, celebrating 50 years in business is not simply a milestone. It is a reflection of a company that has spent half a century building itself around the practical realities of industry.

Behind the Scenes, Where It Matters

During a recent Made in the Midlands factory tour of HAYLEY 247 DEXIS, members saw that reality up close. There was no theatre to the operation - just pace, organisation and purpose.

Stock moved through the building. Orders travelled across systems. Teams worked through customer requests with the quiet confidence of people used to urgency.

It was a reminder that industrial supply is not just about what sits on the shelf. It is about what happens when a customer needs it immediately.

HAYLEY 247 DEXIS exists in that space between problem and production - the place where speed, stock, technical knowledge and trust all come together.

Built on More Than Scale

From its Midlands roots in 1976, HAYLEY DEXIS has grown into a national industrial supply and engineering services business, supporting manufacturers across sectors including food production, quarrying, utilities, agriculture, logistics and engineering.

But scale alone does not explain longevity.

A business does not last 50 years simply because it gets bigger. It lasts because customers keep finding reasons to rely on it.

With a network of more than 50 branches and over 1300 employees, HAYLEY DEXIS has maintained a local presence while continuing to grow nationally - keeping technical knowledge and customer relationships close to the industries it serves.

To the outside world, a component may look small. Inside a factory, it can be the difference between a line running and a line standing still.

Incorporated as Hayley Bearings Limited on 6th May 1976, the business began from a small High Street shop in Blackheath, West Midlands

The Strength of Local Knowledge

One of HAYLEY DEXIS’ defining strengths is the way it combines national capability with local understanding.

Different regions have different industries, different pressures and different expectations. A branch serving automotive manufacturers in the Midlands may not face the same demands as one supporting quarries, dairies or food producers in the South West.

That ability to adapt locally has helped the company remain close to the customers it serves, even as the wider business has grown.

It also reflects something deeper: HAYLEY DEXIS has not built its success by moving further away from industry, but by staying close to it.

The Next Chapter

The company’s evolution now reaches beyond traditional supply.

Training, technical services, inventory management and engineering support have become increasingly important as manufacturers look for partners who can help them improve capability, reduce downtime and strengthen resilience.

That shift says something about where industry is heading.

Customers no longer need suppliers who simply process orders. They need partners who understand their operations, anticipate challenges and help them build better systems around the work they do.

After 50 years, HAYLEY DEXIS appears to be doing exactly what long-standing industrial businesses must do: honouring the principles that built the company while continuing to evolve around the needs of modern manufacturing.

Still Built Around Industry

Anniversaries often look backwards. This one feels more like a reminder of what still matters. Stock matters. Speed matters. Technical knowledge matters. Relationships matter.

But above all, usefulness matters.

For half a century, HAYLEY DEXIS has remained useful to British industry - not in a distant or abstract way, but in the daily, practical, often unseen moments that keep businesses running.

And that may be the real story of 50 years. Not just growth or legacy. But staying close enough to industry to keep moving with it.
